Three to five women anoint the Bride & Groom with sandal wood paste

Mala
A Mala (flower garland) is placed on the Bride & Groom

Blessing of the Thali
The Thali is a sacred yellow thread with a gold ornament. The Thali is placed on a tray with akshadai (flowers) and the tray is passed around the wedding guests to get their blessings. Everyone takes some flowers to bless the couple.

Tying of the Thali
The Thali is given to the groom by an elder couple. The Groom ties three knots in the Thali as a symbol of the permanent union between the Bride and Groom. Guests bless the couple by showering them with flower petals and a tray of candy is passed around.

Exchange of Garlands
The Bride & Groom exchange garlands three times, signifying mutual acceptance, love, respect, and commitment as life partners

Exchange of Fruit & Milk
The Bride & Groom are fed sweets, milk, and fruit symbolizing the beginning of a sweet life

Blessings of Elders
Elders shower the Bride & Groom with flowers and give their blessings
